Coffee hub

Want to know what's going on in the 'hood? Forget the newspaper; come to our weekly coffee hub for all the dirt on your neighbours local news.

For $2 (cheap at twice the price) you can join your fellow citizens for a coffee (or tea, if you prefer, and, sometimes, snacks) and get brought up to date on all local current events. Who's dock floated away down the bay in that last storm? Who didn't get their boat out all summer? How much did that cottage sell for? Really???? And so on. 

Beyond local events, you can expect (or initiate) discussion of national and international news and affairs, with plenty of opinions being shared (respectfully, of course).

And if you're not in a conversational frame of mind, retire to the library to enjoy the more solitary pursuit of reading. Thrillers, dramas, murder mysteries, true stories - there's something there for everyone's taste. And you can even take the book with you to finish by the fire at home. (Just bring it back, please.)

Join us. It's fun. Thursdays, at the Centre, from 9 to 11 AM.

It's back!

In response to many requests from Centre supporters, the Thursday morning breakfasts are back, with the first one being offered November 17, 2022. Join us between 9AM and 11AM and have a great breakfast and chance to socialise with your neighbours for only $10 per person, payable at the door. (All proceeds towards Centre maintenance and upkeep.)

For planning purposes we ask that you RSVP to DarlingWhiteLakeCentre@gmail.com with your name and number of guests.

We are also looking for a couple of volunteers to help out with cooking, bussing, cleaning, or whatever other tasks need doing. Again, if you can assist let us know at DarlingWhiteLakeCentre@gmail.com.

So RSVP, mark your calendars, and we'll see you on the 17th.

"It was [an] absolutely perfect spot…. Well organized kitchen to warm food, wonderful dining space so no one was crowded, we had an appetizer table as well and the buffet tables…. Then after everyone enjoyed the picnic tables and some sun!"

The quotes above are from a local resident who rented the Centre for their family's Thanksgiving dinner. Feeding 20 adults will stretch the capabilities of anyone's home, so why not take advantage of the well-equipped kitchen and wide open dining spaces at the Darling White Lake Centre? The cost is reasonable* and all we ask is that you respect the space and leave it in the same condition you found it - not unlike you're own home after hosting a large get-together.

* For events not requiring the use of the kitchen, the fee is $65 per calendar day (or part). The rental fee is $100 per calendar day (or part) if the kitchen facilities will be used in support of the event. For any event expecting more than 60 attendees the rental fee will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In all cases, prior approval of the Executive Committee is required for any rentals.

Those crafty White Lakers

There's a lot of talent around this lake, from visual artists to musicians to crafters. And this past week some of our more experienced crafters hosted a hands-on event at the Centre where they shared their knowledge and helped about a dozen of their friends and neighbours to create a small piece of folk art. By all accounts it was a successful day and the attendees are now looking forward to a follow-on session coming soon.
